A New Home

Big round raindrops fell through the trees. Henry’s whiskers were very wet. Mattie followed behind him, skipping puddles.

“Are we there yet?” she asked

Henry hoped they were on the right path to their new home in Brandon Country Park.

Henry pulled a bright green barrow loaded with tins of paint and brushes, bags of acorns and pine cones.

Mattie carried a bag full of pots and pans and her favourite dish for apples.

“This way,” said Henry.

“Are you sure?” said Mattie.

Henry stopped. No, he wasn’t sure. Everything looked so wet and misty . …. and what was that?

A pointy nose poked into Henry’s barrow.

“Are you my new neighbours?” asked hedgehog.

“Are we?” Henry’s whiskers quivered.

“I hope so,” said hedgehog, “because there’s a little house in a tree stump down there. Too small for me, but perfect for two mice. Welcome to your new home!”
